Hello, My name is Jake Matles, I also go by jakepropoker. I would like to talk about my journey as a content creator and more specifically, my catchphrase, "NOBODY RUNS BETTER THAN THE PRO". I started making poker content in April of 2024. It started off as me posting videos playing against my friends and other people I was familiar with. We would play for a couple hundred bucks, and none of us would take it super seriously, despite all of us being quite skilled at poker. Over time, I posted more and more videos, most of the time with me winning, and got tagged as a "Lucky" player by people who didn't know me. At the time there were 2 options. Either argue and look bad and say no I am not lucky I am good, OR embrace it. That is when I started saying "Nobody Runs Better Than The Pro". Over time, this catch phrase has not only become a large part of my poker identity, but also my personal identity. I think the phrase encapsulates the ideas behind my being very well. I pride myself in my competitive spirit and ability to get good at almost anything I set my mind to. Not just good, I want to be great most of the time. The concept that I have extended into the rest of my life, is the idea that nobody will get luckier than someone who is really good. Here are some other examples to help paint the picture:

  • Maybe a random Joe can make 1 three-pointer before Steph Curry (Although unlikely), however, they will certainly NOT be able to make 1000 three pointers faster, or 100,000...

  • Maybe a stock trader can do better than Warren Buffet for 1 year, or pick a stock that outperforms his portfolio, but after 40 years, they will not

This idea of having to be the best in order to get lucky also can be extended even further. Not only will people who are good at something seem to get lucky, BUT you can only get lucky if you take risks. An example from poker is if you go all in with 60% odds, you are putting yourself in a position to "get lucky". I think the two of these concepts combined really guide my life. Every day I work super hard to be the best AND I consciously put myself in positions to get lucky by taking risks. NOBODY RUNS BETTER THAN THE PRO.
